First day in the field

Today was our first day of “work” in the field.  Optical ministry, women’s ministry, and construction were taking place in various different place in La Ceibita and Tocoa.  The optical clinic ran pretty smoothly today with very few equipment hiccups.  That was great!  We saw 61 patients today and gave out 22 prescriptions and any more reader.  Our oldest patient was 98 years old.  The media showed up again at our mission and interviewed Mike.  Seems to be a regular occurrence now to have the media show up!  But thats good - the more publicity for ministry the better.  Theres much to do!  I had Franklin translating for me today and I’m always so grateful to him and our translators.  They make our jobs so much easier.  I also had one of the church ladies helping me pull glasses and once she got the hang of the location of the glasses, she did great.  It was nice to work closely with one of the church ladies and get to know her a little better.  Other women and men of the church helped throughout the day to process people through the lines and make sure things run smoothly.  We are partners and could not do any of this without their support.

The women’s ministry worked with the ladies on baking pies today!  It was a hot day so hard work baking pies in the heat.  They did a wonderful job and enjoyed learning new skills.  The VBS team had fun with the kids in Tocoa and the kids loved Clancy and his guitar playing!  The special needs kiddos are always so fun to be with!

In the feeding center in Tocoa, the construction team was working hard building tables and chairs for the kids to sit at and eat.  So close to being ready to start feeding the kids!  They had a lot of fun today!

In our devotion this morning we talked about being on Jesus Standard time verse our own time schedule.  We talked about interruptions throughout our day and how some times those interruptions are important.  Today we were to challenged to allow the interruptions and spend time with people and not necessarily worry about finishing the task .  Several team members shared tonight how they were able to take time away from the task and focus on the people instead.

Tomorrow optical works one more day in La Ceibita and then heads over to Tocoa to set up for the remaining few days.

Our time here is already going fast!  Can’t believe its Tuesday already tomorrow)

Turning in for the night. Im beat!
