Blessings.

Wednesday June 1st, 2022


Today we were asked to look for blessings throughout the day.  Probably the easiest challenge over all for the week, at least for me - there have been an abundance of blessings all week long.  So many people in the community wanting better for themselves and their neighbors and people coming out and being willing to help.  So many people able to see much better than they did before because we were able to bring an optical mission.  So many more blessings. 


But, today was extra special.  We spent the morning watching Encanto the movie with the kids of the special needs school.  A few things to tweak but all in all I think the kids loved it.  Then after lunch, we had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the feeding center.  So many people from different departments of Honduras were present at that ceremony, and every single one of them super supportive of the mission.  They truly have been a blessing in this project.  I got up to speak and share my thoughts and a few other members also talked.  After a few words and some passages from Pastor, we headed around to the front of the building and did our ribbon cutting ceremony.  This was the most amazing experience.  To be able to be there from start to finish and now seeing it come to fruition.  God is good!  There’s a little work to do, but not too much so it should be up and running soon.  There are commitments from various different groups to help out with things which is amazing.  


Today we also celebrated Jorges birthday - Jorge is one of our amazing translators. Our translators and our coordinator Milton are so valuable and necessary for our team.  We could not do what we do without them.  They are like family and I miss them all so very much when I am back in the USA.  I miss everyone here.  But its not goodbye, its see you later.  


The people of Honduras and everyone I work with here are truly a blessing to me and many others.  My cup is over flowing and I am going home on a high.  I can’t wait to be back in September and to see the feeding center in action with the kiddos.  Such a blessing.  


Thursday we make about a 6 hour drive to a town called Tela to spend the night closer to the hotel for our flight out on Friday.  Lots to pack up and get ready for the day!

Thursday June 2nd.

Our team got up early to travel to Tela and spend the near not too far from the airport.  We got to enjoy a little down time at a beach hotel and hang out and socialize together.  This team has truly been a blessing.  They worked well together, there were no issues and everyone bonded like family.  Its been awesome and I could not be prouder of how the new people really adjusted and just fit right in.  They definitely have a heart for missions and I love that.  I know they will be back! 


Keeping this short.  Tomorrow (Friday) is a long travel day for us as we head home back to the states.  Everyone is exhausted, but happy and feeling blessed!  Prayers for safe travels tomorrow.  See you soon Honduras.

Thankful Thursday

 Today was our last day actually working in the mission field as tomorrow is a driving travel day.  The drive back up to San Pedro Sula is very long and can take anywhere between 6 and 10 hours depending on the day.  So we drive up there the day before our flights to anticipate any hiccups along the way and make the actual flying day less stressful and uneventful.   So Thursday is always a half day working on mission in the clinics etc so we have time to take down the clinics, sort through medications and inventory stuff for next year.  Theres a lot to do during this time so we can be on top of things for the next mission and know exactly what we have down here.   But the day started off as usual and pretty quickly upon arrival the clinic was filled with people who had been waiting there, some of them since 6am.  Some people come from the mountains and go by foot to get there.  We take for granted in the states the ability to get around and access...

Long Travel Day But We Arrived Safe

 Today was an exceptionally long day for the team but we made it here safe and sound.  The majority of the team have been traveling for 24 hours so they are pretty beat.  Arriving at San Pedro Sula Airport we had a minor hiccup with a missing bag.  Turns out it had been pulled by customs for reasons we couldn’t explain and it took a while to retrieve it.  So after sitting around for a long time we finally left the airport at 4:20pm.  Our lunch was at 6pm at Wendy’s in Tela and finally after a short bathroom break, we arrived in Tocoa at around midnight.  Much of the drive was in the dark as the sun sets around 6pm here all year round.  So not too many sights to report along the way.    Greeted by the few team members that came ahead a few days, we were happy to get to our rooms quickly so we could turn in.  I was thrilled to learn that the clinic is all set up!  Tomorrow will be a more restful day.  I’m excited to see ever...

Painting God’s Kingdom

  Today was long, and exhausting, but amazing on so many levels.     Our day started with breakfast at 7am followed by a devotion and singing before climbing in the van and heading out to La Ceibita.     When we arrived in La Ceibita we worked on preparing the bags for the home visits.     Working together we got it done in no time and then started preparing the outside of the church for paint.     There was some scraping and cleaning that needed to happen. Two of us from the team headed into town to pick up the paint with Pastor and Lorena.     We did not know until we got there that they wanted us to pick out the paint color.     So Alyssa and I spent some time debating and both of us knew we wanted it to be colorful and bright.     Paint colors that you just simply don’t see on buildings in the US.     Once we settled on a color, we began negotiating with the sales person to bring the price down for ...
