Gods Perfect Timing
“There is a time for everything, and a season for everything activity under the heavens”. Ecclesiastes 3:1
You know when you make plans and you get everything all in a row and ready to go, and something happens and nothing is what is was “supposed” to be? Well yeah, thats kind how it is often when we come down here. But those are our plans, human plans. God’s plans are exactly what they are supposed to be and coming down here to be with our friends and family here, we are humbled always at the paths we take and where we end up. We can work hard to make things perfect, but God’s timing is what really determines the “perfectness” of it all!
Today we arrived at the church in La Ceibita to begin our first day in mission. The first hour was a lot of set up and sorting through bags to figure out where things were and to get the optical ministry set up. There are over 2000 pairs of glasses in inventory that are in boxes with cubbies. They need to be organized in numerical order to make it easier for us to grab them after the machine reads the patients eyes. While people were pulling stuff off of trucks and getting things set up, I met with Milton and Lorena to communicate our “plans” for the rest of the week. First “plan” gone array - there was a miscommunication - somewhere lost in translation, and Lorena did not think we were supposed to have a clinic today! We had no patients! So, she picked up her phone and called and texted members of the congregation to tell them to come today instead of tomorrow. Then the people from the village can come tomorrow. Within an hour there was a line of people waiting to be seen. So we went from having 0 patients to over 50 patients that came through the clinic over the shortened day. It was a huge blessing - 23 prescription glasses given out to those that needed them and countless beautiful smiles. One women even laughed out loud that she could finally see without blurry eyes. Time spent chatting with patients and visiting and seeing the beautiful smiles is priceless. Its a lot of work to set it all up - but its worth every minute and drop of sweat! I was so happy to be able to do this today and thankful that God give us a women like Lorena who just gets stuff done!
Other people in our groups simply played with kids, some did VBS some did home visits. All got hugs and love from lots of kiddos.
Today I got to meet my Sponsor child from the Becas Con Bendiciones program. I was thrilled to meet him. Tomorrow he is coming back so we can visit a little longer. I also got to spend time with my little girl Valery who has rickets. She gives the best hugs and it was amazing to be able to snuggle with her again.
Back to the hotel to clean up, eat dinner and then do devotions. We had a great time of sharing and singing and glorifying Gods name.
Such an amazing first day. Can’t wait to see what God’s timing brings for us tomorrow!
