Domino Effect
“How beautiful are the feet of the that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
The faith we have and the life we lead by example are all we need to share God’s word with others. We are simply here to spread the seed and God is what nurtures that seed to grow. The small things we do, the little things we say and the short conversations we have, can have a huge effect on someone. Everything we do in our daily lives leaves a footprint somewhere. Our challenge today in our daily devotion was to notice how we see the domino effect throughout the day. There were many examples that were later show during our evening devotion. For me it was encouraging two boys sitting next to me in church to stop messing around and teasing each other, and listen to what the pastor was saying. I did separate them at one point but what came next was so awesome. These were two boys that don’t usually come to church, they had been at bible school this week and were told to come to church to pick up a small gift from the team. While pastor was praying, they were getting a little rambunctious and I put my hands out and close my eyes and encouraged the to do the same. I would open an eye once in a while to see what was happening and the one boy to my right was still messing around. But eventually he watched what I was doing and when I looked again, he had his eyes closed and palms out facing up. I could tell by his face that he was indeed praying and that was awesome to see!
After church members of the local church split into groups of 5 and then we split our team up amongst their group. We went to about 5/6 home visits with some of the congregation.
When I walked back I tracked down a translator and walked with my sponsor child Eduardo to meet his family and chat with them. Such a blessing to be so close to church! We had a great visit - I gave him a packer hat and a football and he was very excited!
After we all changed into work clothes and had lunch we headed over to Tocoa to go clean up the feeding center to get it ready for the few days of mission work that we had planned for the rest of the week. We are moving our mission to Tocoa on Monday. It was such an amazing feeling to see the feeding center in its beautiful bright colors just about ready to start accepting kiddos! I can’t wait to see daily pictures of kids getting fed here. The last time we saw this, it was trenches and rebar! Now it has walls, windows doors, fun colored paint and so much more! We got through with cleaning and then left the floor to dry. It will be ready for the optical clinic tomorrow!
Later in the afternoon - we drove about an hour to a town called Trujillo to visit the beach and have dinner. It was a really nice afternoon of the whole team being together spending time together. We are a team from all walks of life, yet we have become like family this week. Trujillo and the beach are beautiful and it was a blessing to get to spend some time here.
We headed back to Tocoa, grabbed ice cream and then headed to devotions. Our devotions have been been so heartwarming and fruitful. I have loved how much everyone is willing to share.
Its late and we have an earlier start tomorrow because we have the clinic to get set up and our first VBS is at 8am.
I’m physically and mentally tired, but I am so wonderfully blessed and my cup is definitely filled.
Blessings,
Shelley
PS Oh, I stepped on a nail, stepped in an ants nest and got stung a ton, and whacked my head today - LOL - I’m good, actually it was kinda funny, I’m still standing!!
