Travel day to Tegucigalpa

Today we left the hotel in Tocoa at 5am, before the roosters and the sun came up.  We had our long drive back to Tegucigalpa and wanted to have a little time in town to see some of the area and relax as a team a little.  So we spent a few hours in the Valley of the Angels, which is touristy area but fun to visit.  We saw some of the cultural dancing happening in the square that we had seen at the church the other night - so it was kind of fun to walk up and say, hey, I recognize that!  This area is a safe area and we were all able to wander around the town of our own accord and agree on a meeting place at a specific time.  Some of us shopped for loved ones, some of us just strolled, and we all enjoyed time chatting at a coffee shop.  After our few hours, we drove back to the mission house to clean up, pack up a little and then go out for our team celebration dinner. We enjoyed a meal together and surprised Mateo & Ashely with a cake for their birthdays.  Mateo’s birthday is tomorrow on our day of travel back to the USA and Ashely’s is the next day.  We could not have a celebration dinner without celebrating them!

After dinner we returned to the mission house and enjoyed one final devotion together.

We all come from different backgrounds, have different ideals, opinions and situations, but being on mission together brings you closer together with one simple truth.  Faith.  We all agree (and it seems to be a common theme after mission), that we need to be more like the Honduran people and their faith.  We have had many laughs, many tears and hugs and many times of great conversations together.  Being on mission does change you, and most definitely you will feel closer to God here.  The trick for most of us, is keeping that with us as we go about our daily lives.  Not getting caught up in the frenetic world we live in, so busy with our own priorities, that we forget about what we felt and learned and hoped to continue working towards here in Honduras.  I leave a piece of my heart here when I go and I know that I will be back over and over again.  The world of technology has certainly helped keep those relationships alive and growing and I love that we can stay connected with people here that way.

My hope is that we keep perspective when we go on with our lives and know that God is at work here and in our hearts.  I hope that its always possible for us to continue to come and do God’s work.

It’s been a great week.  Ive had a great team to work with both locally in Honduras and from the USA.  We are one team, one mission.

Blessings.
