Faith and Fellowship
Today was the first of two days of home visits for half of the team. One half stayed at the construction site to keep working on the foundation with the local construction crew and the other half took food to families in need.
Today we visited I think about 18 different families in the area. The need is great. They lack food, clothing, medications etc. All the things that often take for granted back at home. Their homes are “home made” from corrugated metal sheeting, bricks, blocks, sugar cane, whatever they can lay their hands on. The floors are dirt floors, and they almost always share a room and a bed with multiple people. Today it was not uncommon to hear of families of 14 people living in one tiny room. The most striking thing of all is their faith. No matter what their worries and troubles are, they always have strong faith in God and are very gracious and thankful for that. We could learn a lot from them about faith.
We got to hold a tiny one month old baby, play football with the children with footballs that were donated, hand out treats to the children and provide basic food for people in need. It was a great experience for everyone especially the new people to missions.
The construction team continued working and got a lot done! The builder told the team that he didn’t expect to get this far until Friday, so we are ahead of schedule! Super cool. We have had Christian (one of the Ceibita church members), working so hard with the team this week. He even took a week of vacation from work so he could do this. He and his wife Silva are both very active in the church and we are thankful for both of their commitments to the mission.
The church here is amazing and so committed to the mission. I am always in awe of how much they put into this stuff and how much they care about the community. Pastor Orlin and Lorena work so hard and it has been such a wonderful thing getting to know them on a deeper level this week. Their faith is amazing and they are wonderful people.
Tonight we were invited to spend the evening and have dinner with Pastor Orlin and Lorena and their family. She cooked a delicious meal and we spent the evening in devotion with them and discussing our day. What an added blessing to have them be part of our team in devotion too.
I am so incredibly grateful for this week. It has lifted me up so much.
Blessings.
