Travel Day and Ahead Team Arrival

Always an exercise in patience. Travel can be exhausting   Hurry up and wait. Those things are true often when you travel, it does not matter what country, but the last statement is especially true - hurry up and wait.  After some mechanical issues on both my planes, and the rest of the ahead team arriving a little later than expected, we all met up outside of security in the airport at San Pedro Sula.  I’ve only know these people a short time but it was like seeing family again when we met up. Something about working in mission creates a bond and friendship that is to be treasured.  Milton and Mike were working on getting a rental van as the mission is short a vehicle right now.  It took a very long time to get that taken care of - longer than it should have by American standards!  But, we eventually got the van on got on the road at about 3pm.

The drive from San Pedro to Tocoa is always interesting, scenic and eye opening.  The drive is often spent dodging animals, children, people on bicycles, cars on the wrong side of the road and pot holes.   Traffic in the towns along the way is always crazy and there never seem to be any rules of the road.  Somehow I’ve never felt unsafe though and its always been enjoyable.

After a few stops along the way, we arrived safe and sound in Tocoa at about 8:30pm.  What seemed like a long drive, actually only ended up being 5 1/2 hours which is faster than anticipated.  Everyone was tired from travel and it was night time so the driving is a little more challenging. The team was in a good mood though and once we arrived in Tocoa we met up with Pastor Orlin and his wife Lorena and son Diego.  We ate dinner at a restaurant in town, chatted about the plans, thoughts, ideas for the next few days and the coming week when the rest of the team arrived on Saturday.  We finished up and headed to the hotel to check in and unpack all of our luggage from the truck.  Headed to our rooms, got settled and called it a night!

It’s morning now, I’ve been awake since 5am - true to my normal sleeping habits, had my first cup of coffee and I’m ready for the day.  I’m excited to spend time in mission but also spend time planning ahead for when our Wisconsin team comes in June.  So many exciting things happening here and so much enthusiasm for the mission.   There is a dedication to the new special needs school on Friday!  So exciting.

Thats all I have for now, more to come after the day is done.

Blessings, Shelley

1 Samuel 12:24: “But be sure to fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.

Seek Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly. Let the anointing fall! Let the lame walk, let the deaf hear, open the eyes of the blind Lord. Do it all in the mighty name of Jesus.
