Dedication of new special needs school & baking practice
Today we were invited to the dedication of the new special needs school. Things usually take a long time to get done here in Honduras, but this special needs school went up fast and furious! We started with the groundbreaking and laying of the first stone in August, and now 6 months later we have 4 classrooms, and the school has grown from 30 kids to 60 kids. It’s amazing what the local team has accomplished in such a short time. These beautiful children now have a place they can call home and it is there’s forever! The ceremony was attended by the mayor and other important folks from the city.
We also got the chance to walk around the plot where we are going to be building a new church in June. It is right next to the special needs school and we hope to integrate them both over time with each other.

After a busy morning of celebrating the school, we headed to the grocery store to buy supplies for the baking ministry. One of our team leaders wanted to practice baking in the Honduran oven to make sure that it was going to work, before trying to teach a group of women that following week. The oven is not what we would call an oven back in the states! In fact it looked like a hot dog warmer! It took some time to figure out how to control the temperature of the oven but eventually we got it running smoothly and baked a cake! The ladies of the church that were there watching were so excited to see that this was possible. They really want to learn to bake so they can sell their baked goods and raised money for the church and other things. More planning to come on that and what we will be doing with our team in June.
After a hot afternoon baking in a hot building with no air, we headed back to our hotel, showered and then the plan was to take the Pastor and his wife Lorena to dinner. We had a lovely evening just chatting and getting to know each other a little better. Tomorrow is a slower day as most of our prep work is done so we plan on doing a little exploring of the area. The rest of the team gets into town on Saturday evening and then we get to work with the medical mission and other ministries. It’s been a great week so far!
